2020 Update

Dear Friends and Family,

It’s been a little while since I wrote my last support letter or blog post. In some ways, it’s crazy to think that I’ve been in Alaska for almost 5 years. Sometimes when I’m out and about, and I see the mountains, I think about how cool it is to live in such a beautiful state. Coming from such a flat state, mountains will probably always amaze me, and these mountains are no small deal. Summer is fast approaching. There is the ever-present struggle of wanting warmer weather but also wanting a bit more prep time before the camp season starts. I have deadlines that are approaching that are starting to stress me out a bit, but I have to remind myself that I still have time.

The end of 2019 and into 2020 has brought about some changes here at camp. We recently welcomed a new Executive Director at Solid Rock, and with change of leadership comes some change organizationally. My job will be shifting a bit over the next year, and becoming more of a cohesive role. At this point, it looks like I will be moving more into a marketing role here at camp. This will include many of the things I’ve already been doing, such as the snack shop areas and some office work. A large portion of what I’ve been doing and will continue to do is to update documents that we distribute and moving forward ways that we can better communicate with the public and our supporters. I enjoy reformatting documents and and working towards the continual improving of camp. Needless to say, most of my job is in the background, so probably doesn’t seem all that thrilling, but it’s what I do and I like it. Plus, it’s an area where I can grow and continue to learn.

As for my personal life, things have been going pretty well. I continue to enjoy this community and the relationships that God has put in my life. I just started attending a new community group connected with my church, and have loved that time to get to know new people and delve into His word. Kind of had to get out of my comfort zone to try a new group, but it has been worth it. Other than that, I still continue to enjoy having people over and cooking for them. It’s one of those things that has just become a constant in my life, easily helped by loving to cook and bake. It’s been great to have a home with a kitchen where I can host people.

Another change that came with 2020 was federal regulations regarding income. Before, I’ve been able to work part-time jobs to help offset living and working at camp, but now I am being required to raise my support for camp to a certain level per month or else I have to limit the hours I work at camp. My short term goal/need is to raise my monthly support by $1400/month to continue working the hours that I am currently working. At this point, we are working things out for me to continue working enough hours, but it is not a long-term solution, and cannot be maintained through the summer season. I have a long-term goal set by the camp, but I am starting with this, as I realize it’s a lot, and really, any bit helps. If you are interested in supporting me financially, I have included how to do that below.

If supporting financially is not a possibility for you, there are other ways that you can support me, or even if you are supporting financially. Please be in prayer for the ministry that goes on here at Solid Rock Bible Camp. We are already recruiting staff for the summer and I ask for prayer that they find their strength in the Lord and prepare their hearts to love on the kids that will come. I also ask for prayer that we recruit enough staff for the summer. As for personal prayer requests, I ask for prayer in my daily walk. It’s easy to find distractions that take away from time with the Lord. I also ask that you pray for this summer; amidst the craziness of the summer, I’m adopting a puppy, so I plan on no sleep and lots of adventures and the welcome challenge of raising a companion. It’s been a long wait for this puppy, so I’m ridiculously excited. Anyways, prayer that I still find some rest and everything goes well.

Please consider partnering with me as I continue to serve at Solid Rock Bible Camp. This ministry doesn’t happen without those outside who support it both financially and in prayer. Your continued support means so much to me! And I will try to update more frequently about the adventures that this next year has in store!
